klinger-io: There is a lot of talk going on about the endurance and struggle that startup founders go through. How long the hours are, we all pull through and how we are constantly out of our comfort zone. We run startups – we are constantly at the border of our comfort zone. Aren’t we? No we…

Python ‟magic”
This has to be the magic-est Python code I’ve ever written. Didn’t know it was possible to inherit from classes created on the fly (awesome!). https://gist.github.com/4055485 The code is for making some fields, in several tables, multi-language (I’m using SQLAlchemy). Instead of writing every time whatever_en, whatever_es, , whatever_pt, etc. and a property(…)  but just...

zaarly: Products can be built in many different ways. But, no matter what the process, usually the end goal is always the same. A simple, useful and meaningful product that people love. We just released Zaarly 3.0. We wanted to share a few early sketches that we made on a favorite iPad app of ours,

Why does Thor and Loki speak our language?
They don’t. They hear and talk in AllSpeak.  Everybody can understand the Allspeak, although their brains mistakenly confuse it with old English (or whatever language they normally speak).

How key-based cache expiration works - (37signals) →
The caching is cascaded, so yes a full depth regeneration incurs a DB hit. BUT the next cache hit will incur just one DB query for the top-level object—all the descendant objects are not queried because the cache for the parent object includes cached versions for the children (thus, no query necessary).

@font-face Smoothing in Windows Chrome →
taitems: You may have noticed the issue in which @font-face embeds rendered in Windows Chrome look mighty jagged. Fixes such as -webkit-font-smoothing barely do anything, so this hack relies on a fairly well known fact about Windows Chrome: putting text-shadow on anything makes it blurry as shit. …
